VENDEE GLOBE

Play Video

The Vendée Globe is a solo, non-stop, around-the-world yacht race—considered one of the toughest challenges in sailing. Founded in 1989 by Philippe Jeantot, it takes place every four years and starts from Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. Competitors sail alone, without assistance, navigating some of the world’s most dangerous oceans, including the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn. Covering about 24,000 nautical miles, the race tests sailors’ endurance, skill, and mental strength. The Vendée Globe is often called the “Everest of the Seas” for its extreme conditions and spirit of adventure.

2016 (8th edition):

Highfield was named an Official Partner for the 2016 Vendée Globe, contracted to supply 42 RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats) to ensure the safe departure and arrival of the solo skippers. These boats were specially adapted models developed for the organization’s needs, in collaboration with partners like Honda Marine for outboard engines.
The fleet was used at key moments (start/finish) for safety and management of the race logistics.

2020 (9th edition):

Highfield once again served as Official Supplier for the support/safety fleet. This time they delivered 46 aluminium-hulled RIBs ranging from 6.6 m to 8.6 m, powered by Honda outboards (150 hp up to new V6 250 hp models). These were delivered around mid-October to Les Sables-d’Olonne, and featured in the Vendée Globe village. The fleet had significant roles in preparing the start area, providing security up until the race start under challenging conditions such as sea mist or low visibility. As in 2016, the support was turnkey, coordinated with various partners (trailers, engine and navigation system suppliers) to meet specification, deploy the fleet, and ensure reliability.
